Welcome — quick and secure
Welcome to Trezor.io/Start®. This simple guide leads you through powering up your Trezór®, creating or recovering a wallet, and using best practices for long-term security. We keep technical language minimal and focus on actions you can follow right away.
Before you begin
Make sure you have:
- Your physical Trezor® device (Trezor Model T or Trezor One)
- A computer with a modern browser or the Trezor Suite desktop app
- A secure, private place to write down your recovery seed (never store digitally)
Start up in 5 simple steps
Step 1 — Connect your device
Plug your Trezor® into your computer using the supplied cable. For the Model T, you’ll see a welcome screen on the device display. If you’re using Trezor Suite, it should detect the device automatically.
Step 2 — Open Trezor Suite or visit Trezor.io/Start
Use the official Trezor Suite app or the secure start page at trezor.io/start. Follow the on-screen prompts — the site will never ask you for your recovery seed.
Step 3 — Initialize your device
Choose Create a new wallet to generate a brand-new recovery seed, or Recover wallet if you already have a seed. The device will generate an unpredictable recovery phrase — write it down exactly as shown.
Step 4 — Confirm and secure your seed
After writing your recovery words, the device will ask you to confirm a few of them. Store the recovery seed in a safe, offline location — never photograph, email, or store it on cloud storage.
Step 5 — Final checks and firmware
Check the device’s firmware version and follow prompts to update if recommended. Only update firmware when prompted by Trezor Suite or the official site. After updates, verify the device behaves as expected.

Common first-run questions
What if I lose my device? If you lose the physical device but have the recovery seed, you can recover your wallet on a new compatible device. If you lose both the device and seed, funds are lost.
Can I recover on another brand? Recovery compatibility follows standard BIP39/BIP44 formats — some other wallets may accept the seed, but use caution and verify compatibility first.
Extra: best practices for long-term storage
- Use multiple geographically separated backups for the seed.
- Consider metal seed backups to resist fire and water damage.
- Review access policies if devices are used in a business or shared environment.
Starting your Trezor® correctly makes all future usage easier and safer. Take a few extra minutes at setup — your future self will thank you.
